We at Revolt Solar are personally in favor of “bifacial pure black modules” (single glass + transparant backsheet). In Western Europe, this “bifacial” benefit is rather limited to non-existing, especially when talking about full black modules. Nevertheless, there are some remarkable advantages compared to standard mono PERC modules. First of all, when talking about full black solar modules with black backsheets, these modules are especially important in residential applications that value aesthetics over performance. It is important to keep the solar cell colours uniform on full black panels to prevent blotchy colours on black roofs. Luckily, the colors of bifacial N-type cells are easier to control during production.
A second important advantage is the lower temperature coefficient of this module type, because only the front layer is black, but the backsheet is transparent. A lower module temperature results in not only a higher performance but also in a slower degradation, which is why the linear performance guarantee can be extended to 30 years instead of 25 years.
